Looking at our inclusion statistics in the workplace

As part of our ongoing commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) for residents and staff, we have been looking at our inclusion figures and working with our internal staff Belonging Group to improve our work around EDI, to ensure that Your Place is not only a great place to work, but a safe and welcoming environment to all who come through our doors.

We look at figures and benchmarking across the following categories: disability and neurodiversity, race and ethnicity, gender identity and expression, and sexual orientation. By collecting and reviewing this data, we can better understand diversity across the charity and work towards ensuring all staff feel included and supported, whatever their identities.

Our disability pay gap is 3.9%, with the most recent ONS figures showing an average of 13.8%.

Representation of people with a disability in wider management is 47%, with the National Housing Benchmark being 19%.

Our median ethnicity pay gap is -5.9%, against the ONS figure of 2.3%.

The representation of Black, Asian and other underrepresented ethnicity groups in wider management at Your Place is 20%, against a National Housing Federation benchmark of 30%.

The median gender pay gap is 4.7%, against the ONS figure of 8.3%.

The representation of women and non-binary gender identities in wider management roles is 55%, a slight decrease due to leavers this year. This is against the National Housing Federation benchmark of 50.5%.

The median sexual orientation pay gap is -8.6%, against the Social Science Research Network of 22%.

This data shows that we still have further work to do to ensure staff from all identities are fully represented at all levels of our organisation, and in particular we are striving towards ethnicity and gender pay gaps as close as possible to zero.

We are proud to be transparent about this data.

What’s next?

Our Belonging Framework aims to work through four structural stages:

Diversity. “I feel welcome”

Psychological safety. “I am safe”

Inclusion. “I am engaged”

Belonging. “I commit to being here”, “I belong here”

The Belonging Group is made up of employees from across the organisation who are committed to change, and enhancing inclusion.

Lucy Inkster, Director of People at Your Place, said: “Revisiting our Belonging Framework with a fresh perspective is exactly what we need to make meaningful change at Your Place, but we do not underestimate the work that needs to be done to ensure that not only do we have a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of discrimination and harassment, but that we also continue the work  prioritising psychological safety and wellbeing among both residents and staff.”
