BRIGHT FUTURE IN EMPLOYMENT
At Caritas Anchor House, we provide our residents with support and access to training opportunities, with the help of partners, to help them secure work in their sector of their choice.
We’re pleased to share a recent achievement of one of our residents, who has completed an adult social care qualification!
Lewis* has worked closely with Samantha – our Education, Training and Employment Programme Manager – to explore his motivators, existing skills and development ambitions. Samantha said, “Lewis demonstrated a passion for a rewarding vocational career, rather than ‘just a job’”, so she offered support to help him find an area of work that he would be interested in.
We arranged for Lewis to meet with the National Careers Service at Caritas Anchor House, who we have a long-standing partnership with. Their work with residents at Caritas Anchor House includes assessing their skills to determine what roles they would be well suited to, signposting to training providers, and offering advice on CV writing and interview techniques.
NCS shared with Lewis information about Prospects – a service that helps guide people to a bright future in employment. Prospects told Lewis about an opportunity to get the necessary qualifications for a career in adult social care. He was confident that it was an area of work he would prosper in, and so signed up for the course.
The course took place over five days, locally in Newham, and successful completion landed Lewis with a Level 1 NVQ in Adult Social Care. It went so well, that we are now working in partnership with Prospects and are able to refer residents for employment schemes.
This is a great example of how we champion residents steps towards their goals – a vital part of our support service. We’re delighted that in the last year, 97 residents reported improved motivation. In addition, 90% of service user respondents reported improved confidence in securing employment since moving in.
