CELEBRATING OUR PARTNERS AT NEWWAY

We were delighted to attend NEWway’s end of circuit celebration event on Friday 6th April, joining the wonderful community to celebrate their achievements.

Your Place were honoured to be invited to celebrate alongside former guests, staff, volunteers and partners of NEWway, who together have created an invaluable network of support for homeless people in Newham.

Sian, our Team Leader and Senior Practitioner, said, “Newham has the largest homeless population in the country, meaning support centres and emergency shelters like NEWway are incredibly important. We have the greatest respect for the work they do, and are really glad to be here today to celebrate the achievements we have made together.”

NEWway is an emergency winter night shelter which harnesses the kindness of the community to house people sleeping rough over the cold winter months. With the help of host churches and volunteers, they provide warm beds, hot meals and friendly company.

This initiative has been running successfully for the past five years, and has provided a vital lifeline to so many people sleeping outside in the cold. Much like Your Place, NEWway acts as more than a shelter. Each guest remains with NEWway for 28 days, during which time the team works to accommodate people into more stable, long term accommodation, such as Your Place. We are pleased to be one of the organisations NEWway can refer on to.

“We refer as many people as possible onto Your Place because of the wrap around support that they provide. From the first assessment, introduction of a case worker, to the activities and support that Your Place staff provide, we know that the people we refer will be supported in whichever way they need”, said Simone, the Project Coordinator and Advocate Worker at NEWway.

The London Borough of Newham has the highest level of homelessness in the country, with one in every 25 people without a home. As a result, homeless services in the borough are facing an unprecedented increase in demand. We look forward to continuing our partnership with NEWway to break the cycle of homelessness and support people to live independent lives.
