Fee Mak inspires Your Place residents to dream big
On 21st April, Radio and TV presenter Fee Mak visited Your Place, a charity close to her heart in the area she grew up in. Fee met with those living and working at Your Place, and shared her own journey from some challenging times growing up and facing financial difficulties, to becoming a successful host at BBC Radio 1Xtra.
"I was always creative but I just didn't know it would be possible to like have a career in the creative industry. - Fee Mak "
It was wonderful to have Fee join us for the day, and to speak with residents and team members at our employability event. Fee spoke about the challenges she had faced and how she overcame them through hard work, perseverance, and self-belief. Her message of determination and never giving up on your dreams resonated deeply with the residents, who shared how inspired they were by her story. It was great for those residents interested in a career in the creative industry to hear more about Fee’s journey.
"Growing up in a single-parent household, my mom was always telling us, we have to work hard, achieve our academic degrees, whatever it may be. - Fee Mak"
"I had the opportunity to attend a local dance school where I was surrounded by people who looked like me and shared my passion for all kinds of dance, including ballet, tap, jazz, and more. - Fee Mak"
Fee’s visit to Your Place highlights the power of sharing our stories and experiences. By hearing about someone who has overcome obstacles and achieved their goals, we are reminded that anything is possible with hard work and determination. The residents left feeling motivated and empowered to pursue their dreams, no matter how challenging the journey may be.
"Sometimes I feel like giving up, but then a new opportunity presents itself and reminds me that I shouldn't lose hope. There's always something just around the corner. - Fee Mak"
It’s heart-warming to see the impact that Fee had on the residents of Your Place. Her story is a shining example of how we can achieve our dreams even when it feels like the odds are stacked against us. We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to hear Fee’s story, and we hope that her visit will inspire others to share their stories and uplift those around them.
"The fact that Fee Mak broke barriers and found a career without changing who she is inspiring. - Sahara, Resident"
We extend a huge thank you to Fee Mak for her time and support, and look forward to continuing to work together to inspire people experiencing homelessness in Newham to reach their goals, whatever they may be.
