GETTING READY FOR THE CHARITY WALK FOR PEACE

Our staff and residents enjoyed meeting the organisers, sponsors, fellow charities and local Mayors and MPs for this year’s Charity Walk for Peace.

We were delighted to attend the Charity Walk for Peace Reception on Friday 2nd March, where we were able to meet and hear from the organisers of this wonderful community engagement and fundraising event. The strong sense of excitement and achievement from both the Charity Walk for Peace team, and from its beneficiary charities, lifted the crowd’s spirits despite the cold and snowy weather.

The walk is organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association (AMEA) and aims to develop strong, cohesive communities. Last year saw over 4,000 people – including 15 from Your Place – walk 10 kilometres around the Royal Albert Dock. Last year’s incredibly generous donation of £1,500 will fund our twice annual Wellbeing Retreat, which helps our residents focus on self-reflection, and find tranquillity away from London. Four of our current residents, who participated as part of 2017’s team, were also delighted to be invited along to join in the festivities.

Fahmi, a Your Place resident of two years, told us, “I really enjoyed coming to the reception and I also loved last year’s walk – they both had great atmospheres! It was great to meet the people behind the event too.”

James McNicholas, our Trust Manager, has attended the last two walks. He said, “We are delighted to be involved with such a fantastic community who are dedicated to raising funds for charities making a real difference to people’s lives.”

This year the walk is taking place on Sunday 29th April at Royal Windsor Great Park. We cannot wait to take part once again, and look forward to exploring the new route alongside the wonderful community this event has brought together.

If you would like to join our Your Place team as we get active to raise money, we’d love to hear from you. The walk is free to enter, and participants can decide how far they wish to go. Each donation that walkers raise for Your Place will be match funded (up to £2,000) and will help us to continue our vital work supporting homeless people in East London.

To get involved, please get in touch by emailing communications@your-place.org.uk or call us on 0207 476 6062.
