Introducing: The Harbour Project

Homelessness charity Your Place are pleased to announce the name of its new accommodation project, which will be a pioneering long-term provision for people with experience of homelessness and rough sleeping: The Harbour Project.
This follows on from Your Place’s announcement that they are one of the recipients of the Mayor of London’s funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG)’s Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme (SHAP). The funding was allocated to develop a new accommodation service for people who have had extensive experiences of homelessness and sleeping rough.
The name was selected following an open call to residents and staff, with shortlisted responses put through a final voting process both online and in-person, where the Your Place community chose the name The Harbour Project.
Opening in Spring 2025, with new residents moving in shortly afterwards, construction is now underway to the existing Anchor House at Your Place site on Barking Road in Newham. Renovation works will see twenty-three flats converted into the new dedicated long-term service. The Harbour Project will be one of the few services in the UK to offer support beyond the time scales of traditional hostel and temporary accommodation models, meeting the needs of people who have had long and acute experiences of homelessness and giving them the best chances of living a full life in stable accommodation. Residents will have access to an on-site key worker team, as well as night support workers.

Your Place is looking forward to launching The Harbour Project and extending our commitment to solving homelessness one person at a time. Further information will be released in due course.
Amanda Dubarry, Chief Executive at Your Place, said: “It is now something of a tradition at Your Place to involve our resident and colleague groups in naming new projects. We loved how The Harbour Project echoes the seafarer’s mission history of our charity, while emphasising the long-term safety and stability we are creating for residents, and looking to the future of ending homelessness one person at a time.”
Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development, said: “I’m delighted that this new long-term accommodation service will help some of the most vulnerable people in our society to safely rebuild their lives away from the streets.
“Backed by over £2.7m in funding from the Mayor, The Harbour Project meets our commitment to take a housing-led approach to the capital’s rough sleeping crisis, putting us one step closer to achieving our goal of ending rough sleeping in London for good by 2030 – helping to build a better, fairer city for all.”
