Your Place join Stonewall Housing pledge

What better time than Pride month to announce that Your Place have signed up to Stonewall Housing’s LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge.

We have been working with Stonewall Housing, the leading national charity supporting LGBTQ+ people who experience homelessness or unsafe living conditions in the UK, and have signed up to their LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge accreditation, which means that we are working hard to make the voices of LGBTQ+-identifying residents heard within our organisation. This will ensure that residents present and future who identify as LGBTQ+ feel safe and secure in having a community of peers and allies to support them with any challenges they might face.

Your Place are committed to being a safe space for everyone who walks through our doors, and in the next year we will be going the extra mile to ensure that people identifying as LGBTQ+ (as well as those who do not wish to disclose for any reason) are happy and safe in their home with us.

We are excited to be involved with this initiative in order to fully support current and future residents who may be struggling with feeling accepted. Research from Stonewall shows that 1 in 5 LGBTQ+ people have experienced homelessness at some point in their lives, so this is also a commitment to the LGBTQ+ community, as well as anyone who might need our services in the future. This will be especially crucial in our Harbour Project accommodation, which sees residents staying for long-term periods.

With the expertise and guidance of Stonewall Housing, we are working through this process, and will be updating you on our journey to becoming fully accredited.

Lucy Inkster, Director of People, said: “We’re really happy to be partnering with Stonewall Housing for their LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge. We are constantly working on building a community with a strong foundation of inclusion, and we look forward to working with Stonewall Housing’s expertise and guidance to ensure that present and future LGBTQ+ residents and staff feel accepted, happy, and included in our buildings.”
