New trustees appointed
Your Place appoints new trustees helping to improve the gender, ethnic and cultural diversity of our Board and to better reflect the employee base and the community we serve.
Laura Curtis and Anil Sharma were recruited through the East London Business Alliance’s BoardMatch, an annual event that encourages City and Canary Wharf professionals to use their skills and expertise to support the third sector. Joseph Ogundemuren will join the Board shortly, having successfully applied to Your Place’s Board Diversity Programme.
"I am thrilled to be a female member of the Board and importantly the youngest ever trustee at Your Place. At BoardMatch, I really connected with the charity’s vision, the people I met and their passion for what they do. I am looking forward to using my expertise to help solve the homeless crisis."
Laura is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries with experience in a variety of actuarial roles within the insurance sector focusing on enterprise risk management and financial assessments. She has also volunteered within her profession for a number of years in multiple positions. Laura is passionate about social, health and environmental issues and using her professional experience for community benefit.
"I am delighted to have joined the Your Place Board. I was looking for a long-term and sustained commitment with a charity that could benefit from my finance and technology skills. I feel a real sense of belonging to the cause and I look forward to learning something new in the process."
Anil has over 20 years of experience building software solutions for global technology companies and investment banks. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, with expertise in algorithmic trading of financial products.
"The homelessness crisis is an issue close to my heart. While growing up in east London, there was a period of time when I was forced to sofa surf to keep a roof over my head. I now work at a housing association, and I hear the concerns over rising living costs on a daily basis. I am looking forward to joining the Board and bringing my skills and experiences to serve the Newham community."
Joseph is an operations manager for Clarion Housing Group in east London. He leads on Clarion’s Estate Services teams across Newham, who are responsible for keeping their estates safe, clean and well maintained.
"I am pleased to welcome Laura and Anil to the charity. They will bring new skills and characteristics, as well as a passion for the charity’s work. They are joining at a critical time, when we are expanding our services in the midst of the growing housing crisis. We are also looking forward to welcoming Joseph in the near future."
