Our latest step towards ending homelessness

Living room with white kitchen, brown sofa and dining table

We believe in more than providing a roof – we’re here to create real, lasting change. That’s why we are proud to share an exciting milestone, made possible thanks to a generous donation. New properties will offer five people the opportunity to move on from our services into safe, stable homes to support their next step.

This is about more than bricks and mortar. It’s about hope, growth and providing a clear, supported pathway out of homelessness.

Located in Newham, the accommodation is a critical part of our response to the housing crisis. With a chronic shortage of affordable and social housing, too many people are unable to move on from hostels, even when they are ready. These new properties bridge that gap, providing time-limited resettlement accommodation that gives people a real chance at a fresh start while allowing the homes to support others in the future.

At Your Place, our work doesn’t end with providing a place to live. Resettlement support continues after residents move into their new homes, ensuring they have the tools, confidence and community they need to succeed. From day one, individuals are supported to maximise their income and plan their next steps, preparing them for long-term housing beyond their stay. Residents are also offered the opportunity to build up savings over time, to achieve financial security and independence and leave homelessness behind for good.

Charlotte* was just 19 when she became homeless after the landlord of the home she shared with her mum needed the property back at short notice. After several years – and the added challenge of finding affordable housing under the age of 25 – Charlotte was one of the first to move into a resettlement flat. With support from Your Place’s housing team to set up bills and prepare for independent living, she made the transition knowing she wouldn’t be on her own.

"When I walked through the front door of my new home for the first time, my jaw dropped - I actually fell to my knees. After experiencing homelessness so young, having my own safe place has changed everything. I feel like I’m really starting my life now, and I’m honestly so, so happy.” - Charlotte"

The journey toward this new accommodation began with a generous donation; a powerful reminder of the strength of community and the difference we can make together.

“This very generous support goes beyond funding the flats; it gives people the opportunity to move forward after experiencing homelessness,” says Amanda Dubarry, Chief Executive. “At a time when the housing system is under immense pressure, these homes provide the stability and breathing space people need to plan their next chapter, while allowing us to support more people in the years to come.”

This development is just one part of our commitment to ending homelessness, one person at a time. We know that the road to independent living can be complex, but by taking practical action, together we are helping to create a future where everyone has a safe place to call home and the chance to thrive.
