Run by the Rotary Club of Stratford, the East London Community Awards aim to recognise local unsung heroes and community organisations, celebrating the individuals and groups who make the lives of others in our diverse community happier, easier and fulfilling.

Caritas Anchor House is delighted to have been shortlisted and a highly commended runner up in the Outstanding Business Community Partnership category at the awards. This was in recognition of our community-based project, Your Space.

At its heart, Your Space is a therapeutic service working with community members to empower them to engage and navigate local services with confidence, rather than with feelings of helplessness. Your Space services were created in response to high levels of isolation, low income, financial pressures on families and reluctance to engage local health providers in our community. The groups, hosted in safe, non-judgmental spaces, help to improve social health and copying methods through the creation of informal support networks.

John Lowery, our Director of Frontline Services, attended the awards ceremony on Wednesday 19th June. He said, “It was a fantastic event, and a great opportunity for us to spend time with fellow community-driven organisations.

“Through our Your Space programme, and the confidence and networks it fosters, we see trust and friendship overcome doubt and conflict, and the powerful, beneficial results of community cohesion.

“Thank you to the Rotary Club of Stratford for shortlisting us, and for recognising the transformative work done by Your Space and other local services.”

We are proud that over the past year, Your Space has recorded almost 2,000 attendances at its services, and has been recently shortlisted for ‘Community Impact Award’ in the Charity Today Awards.
