New long-term accommodation coming to Your Place

We have secured funding to provide long-term accommodation for people sleeping rough across London

Following the government’s announcement of funding for the Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme (SHAP) back in December 2023, Your Place are pleased to announce that we have secured funding to provide 23 new longer-term accommodation units for people who have been sleeping rough across London.

The sharp increase in homelessness over the past decade has been in part due to limited provisions for the needs of people who have lost their homes. These needs are wide-ranging, and may include mental and physical health, substance use, and precarious employment.

The new, as yet unnamed, project will provide housing solutions for people who need further support to move on, beyond merely finding suitable accommodation. One of the overall targets of the government’s programme is to enable inclusion for people with higher needs. This is currently a significant service gap across the capital, which means there are limited options when people are met by outreach workers on the street. New housing provisions at Your Place will allow people to establish a base for themselves while they receive the support they need, from a dedicated team of staff.

People who are at risk of sleeping rough experience often experience social isolation, and in providing 23 bed spaces with shared facilities and communal areas, we look forward to bringing together a community of people who are moving on from periods of homelessness towards peer support and independent living in London.

Amanda Dubarry, Chief Executive at Your Place, said: “We are proud to be able to use our years of expertise working with people facing homelessness in the community to support people in wider London areas. This new provision will allow more people to access the resources they need to rebuild their lives and move forward after sleeping rough on London’s streets.”

Construction work will commence on our building in Canning Town in April 2024. We look forward to updating you all on its progress!
