Stephen Timms MP visits Barking Road

Chief Executive Amanda Dubarry, along with Homeless Link’s Sophie Boobis Head of Policy and Research, welcomed patron Stephen Timms MP to Your Place’s main Barking Road site for a meeting and to visit Hope Street.

Stephen Timms is part of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Ending Homelessness and chairs the Work and Pensions Select Committee. He has served East Ham as an MP continuously since 1994 and has been a key advocate for Your Place as a patron speaking at our World Homeless Day events at the House of Lords.

Amanda and Sophie had productive talks with Stephen Timms on a several issues including adopting anti-racist, trauma-informed and person-centred principles into support systems and the local situation within Newham. Newham still has the highest level of homelessness in the country, with 1 in 22 people experiencing homelessness. They also went through Homeless Link’s new report ‘Unlocking the door: A roadmap for supporting non-UK nationals facing homelessness in England.’

Amanda then showed Stephen and Sophie around Your Place’s new 15-room accommodation project Hope Street which opened in March.
