TEAM YOUR PLACE TAKE ON THE CHARITY WALK FOR PEACE 2018
On Sunday 29th April 2018, a team of Your Place residents and staff took part in the Charity Walk for Peace in Runnymede.
The Charity Walk for Peace is organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association (AMEA) and aims to develop strong, cohesive communities. The walk raises hundreds of thousands pounds each year which is distributed to local and national charities that provide practical help to vulnerable people, including Your Place. This year, AMEA are hoping to raise up to £1million through the walk.
This year’s event took place in the beautiful Windsor Great Park and saw over 4,000 people – including 10 from Your Place – walk 10 kilometres through the sweeping parkland, exotic gardens and ancient woodland.
Before the walkers set off, they heard speeches from key members of the AMEA community and Runnymede representatives. When they had crossed the finish line, every participant was awarded a medal for their achievement and contribution to the community event, and was treated to a wonderful lunch.
Paul – who was previously homeless and now lives at Your Place – said, “The Charity Walk for Peace was a great experience. I really enjoyed coming together with people from all over to raise money for good causes. It was great to feel part of the community spirit on the day and take in the nice scenery.”
James McNicholas, Trust Manager at Your Place, said, “Your Place were delighted to have been invited to take part in the Charity Walk for Peace again this year. The support of AMEA is much appreciated, and we had a fantastic day raising money for some amazing causes, including Your Place.”
If you’d like to sponsor the residents who took part to raise money for Your Place, you can do so via their Just Giving page (click here). Each donation we receive will be match funded (up to £2,000) and will help us to continue our vital work supporting homeless people in East London.
