New partnership addresses health and access gaps

We’re really pleased to be partnering with the Health Advice Centre at the University of East London to bring health checks and legal advice to residents at Your Place.

People experiencing homelessness are disproportionately likely to experience mental and physical ill health, so it is important for us to ensure that our residents can access health services in ways that meet their needs. We were encouraged to see a strong turnout for the first session of services being offered by University of East London, which so far have included:

  • Blood pressure checks
  • Lung function tests
  • BMI and grip strength assessments
  • Information and guidance on baby and child feeding for parents and carers
  • Advice for preparing nutritious meals on a budget
  • Guidance on navigating the NHS system

Their Legal Advice Team have also been in attendance, providing free legal advice on all areas of law.

We hope that this partnership will help close the gap of accessibility for residents; we look forward to continuing our work with UEL into the future.

Alireza Monajati, Director of Health Advice Centre at University of East London, said: “It was a pleasure for the Health Advice Centre at the University of East London to collaborate with Your Place to deliver free health checks for residents and staff. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to promoting community health and wellbeing. It also offers our students a meaningful opportunity to give back, apply their learning in real-world settings, and engage with the communities we serve. We look forward to continuing this important collaboration and exploring new ways to support our community’s health and wellbeing.”
