Your Place welcomes senior faith leaders for visit

An interfaith group including Archbishop of Westminster and Imam Dr Sayed Ali Abbas Razawi visited Your Place

On Thursday 20 September, East London-based homelessness charity, Your Place, were joined by a group comprised of faith leaders including Cardinal Vincent Nichols and Imam Dr Sayed Ali Abbas Razawi, and Mayor of Newham, Rokshana Fiaz OBE, to visit their site in Barking Road, Canning Town.

Guests were able to experience the community environment at Your Place, where support to solve homelessness one person at a time takes place every day. Visiting the shared kitchen, dining room, gardens, and the award-winning Hope Street project, the esteemed visitors also met with residents as they spoke about their time at Your Place, their own personal stories, and their journeys with faith.

While the headlines around Newham are often on the subject of having the highest rates of homelessness in the UK, it is also one of the most diverse boroughs in the UK, and this is reflected in Your Place’s resident base, so it was a special and affirming visit for both residents and teams.

Your Place were honoured to welcome the following guests on the day: Cardinal Vincent Nichols (Archbishop of Westminster), Imam Dr Sayed Ali Abbas Razawi (Chief Imam and Director General at Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society), Fr Alexander Masters, Fr John Armitage, Miriam Cakebread and David Ryall (Santa Marta Group), Sian Thomas-Cullinan (Director at Caritas Brentwood), Gunther Jancke (TELCO Citizens UK), Maulana Ali Raza Rizvi, Imam Qari Asim, Imam Ibrahim Mogra, and Mayor of Newham, Rokshana Fiaz OBE.

Amanda Dubarry, Chief Executive at Your Place, said: “It is an absolute pleasure to welcome faith leaders to Your Place, to see the impact our work has on people experiencing homelessness in the East London community. We appreciate the support of different faiths, reflecting the wide range of people living and working with us. As we look to expand our pastoral support for residents, we are so grateful for the support and insights from those visiting us.”
